April is Global Volunteer Month, a time to celebrate the people who show up, step in, and serve—often quietly, always generously. At

Share the Warmth, volunteerism isn’t just part of what we do. It’s who we are.

Share the Warmth was founded on the belief that community care changes lives, and from the very beginning, volunteers have been at the heart of that work. What started as neighbors stepping up to meet a need has grown into a living network of people giving their time, skills, and compassion to ensure our guests experience dignity, safety, and hope.

Today, we continue to rely heavily on our volunteers, and we are deeply grateful for every hour, every effort, and every act of kindness they contribute.

Our volunteers do everything. They prepare and serve meals that bring warmth and nourishment. They help raise funds so our doors stay open and our programs stay strong. They serve on our board, ensuring thoughtful leadership and long-term sustainability. They teach life skills classes that empower our guests with practical tools and renewed confidence. Each role is vital, and each volunteer makes a meaningful difference.

But the greatest impact our volunteers have goes beyond any single task.

They show our guests that they matter.

When a volunteer chooses to share their time, they send a powerful message: You are worth investing in. You are seen. You are cared about. For individuals experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity, that message can be transformative. It reminds our guests that they are not alone—and that the community believes in them.

This Global Volunteer Month, we would also like to give a special and heartfelt shout-out to our Executive Board members. These individuals selflessly volunteer their time, energy, and passion behind the scenes to keep Share the Warmth thriving. Their leadership, commitment, and belief in the mission make it possible for us to continue serving our guests with integrity and excellence. We are profoundly thankful for their dedication and steady guidance.

To every volunteer who has served with Share the Warmth—past, present, and future—thank you. You are the heart of this organization. You are the reason our shelter is more than a building. You help make it a place of belonging, safety, and care.
